Earning points on Copa Airlines flights
If you purchased your ticket directly from united.com, by calling the United Customer Contact Center (including a United specialty desk, such as United Groups, United Meetings, or the Premier Priority Desk), by speaking with a United representative at the airport, or by visiting a United ticket office, you will earn miles based on the fare and your MileagePlus status. Please refer to the "Ticket number starts with 016" section below.
Otherwise, go to the "Ticket number does not begin with 016" section. You will earn miles depending on the flight distance, as well as the fare class paid and/or flown.
If you don't remember how you bought your ticket, you may usually find it by looking up its number.
Using Miles
Visit united.com to calculate the number of miles required to fly one way or roundtrip on any Star Alliance network airline, based on class of service and area of travel. Copa Airlines offers reward travel through united.com. Service costs may apply when purchasing or modifying award bookings, depending on the ticketing, travel dates, and MileagePlus status. Award tickets cannot be given at the airport. Call 1-800-UNITED-1 (1-800-864-8331) to reach the United Customer Contact Center in the United States and Canada, or see other contact and language choices.
MileagePlus Premier qualification
- The fare is the ticket's basic rate plus carrier-imposed fees, less any government-imposed taxes and levies. For tickets purchased in a currency other than US dollars, we will convert the purchase to US dollars using an industry standard exchange rate and then compute the amount of miles you will receive. Please keep in mind that the price indicated when purchasing a ticket on united.com includes up to a 7.5% U.S. Federal Transportation Tax on the base rate on itineraries that take you entirely within the US. This tax also applies to some travel routes between the United States and Canada or Mexico. For these itineraries, you will not earn Premier qualifying points (PQP) or reward miles equal to the full price listed.
- The award miles earned on codeshare flights are determined by the operating carrier and its comparable fare class. This may result in discrepancies between the purchased and flown booking classes, which influence the number of base miles and Premier qualifying points received.
- The ticket number begins with "016" and was purchased from United via united.com, the United Customer Contact Center, at the airport, or from a travel agency or other travel website.
- The ticket number does not begin with "016" and was purchased from an airline other than United, a travel agency, or another travel website.
- Flight distance is the number of miles scheduled for a certain flight, as determined entirely by United.
- Except for commercial flights operated by United Airlines, trips to and from Cuba do not qualify for MileagePlus award miles or qualifying points.
- Flights to and from Venezuela do not qualify for MileagePlus award miles or qualifying earn.
- All other fare classes do not earn miles. United and Copa Airlines have the right to alter the applicable fare classes at any time and without notice. Mileage accrual is subject to the rules of the United MileagePlus program, and, as stated therein, mileage will be credited in accordance with the terms and conditions of the MileagePlus Program in effect at the time of travel, not when air travel is purchased, booked, or reserved, and thus miles may not be awarded for some tickets or may be awarded in an amount less than shown. The award miles earned on codeshare flights are determined by the operating carrier and its comparable fare class.
